Aims

This is a one year full time intensive portfolio course that provides a strong grounding in drawing and design skills for entry into third level.

Students are introduced to the textiles and fashion disciplines of printed textiles, embroidery, garment construction and pattern draughting.

Students will produce a portfolio for application to a wide range of third level courses as well as designing and making garments, and printing and embellishing their own fabric and textile pieces.
Work experience forms a vital link with the fashion industry with many students finding employment from their placements
The year culminates in an exhibition of work for students, staff and invited guests.

Career Opportunities

Students who are both interested and suitably qualified have the opportunity to proceed to further study at third level. Past students have secured places in a range of art colleges such as NCAD, LIT, IADT, DIT, GMIT and UK Colleges. Student feedback about the course has been very positive and many students coming back to talk to the class and providing career advice in subsequent years.

Entry to some Third Level Colleges is still determined in part by results gained in the Leaving Certificate.
