Aims

This course is designed to provide the student with the skills required to build, maintain and troubleshoot a desktop computer system, while giving a firm foundation in current hardware and operating systems.

Entry Requirements

• A minimum of five passes on Ordinary Level papers in the Leaving Certificate to including Mathematics and English, or a distinction in Leaving Certificate Applied, Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme and/or relevant work experience.
• A personal interview.

Course Content

Hardware Essentials, Networking Essentials, Systems Software, Computer Programming, Mathematics for Computing, Web Authoring, Database Methods, Communications and Work Experience.

Assessment and Certification

FETAC level 5 - Computer and Network Maintenance (CCNMX).

Career Opportunities

Students will acquire adequate skills to be employed in the PC maintenance and support areas. Students can progress to certificate, diploma or degree courses in IT Colleges.

Students may also progress to FETAC Level 6 - Computer and Network Technician at Colaiste Ide.
