Health Service Skills with Special Needs Qualification


Is this course for you?

Our Healthcare Assistant programme is aimed at those who have an interest in working with people in the Health, Community Care and Special Needs areas.

The programme will provide you with a recognized qualification as a Healthcare and Special Needs Assistant allowing you to work as a Home Care or Nursing Home Assistant, Hospital Care Assistant, Community Day Care Assistant and Special Needs Assistant in primary/Secondary schools.

Students on this programme will also receive training and certification in First Aid and Patient Handling. Students are also assisted with work experience placements.

How will I learn? How will I be assessed?

You will have a mixture of classroom-based subjects, practicals and work placements. You will be expected to complete assignments throughout the year and exams for some modules will take place at the end of the year.

Career opportunities and progression:

On successful completion of the course students can apply to Universities, Institutes of Technology and University Access Programs to study at degree level. This course will also provide you with a variety of career opportunities working in homecare, long term residential settings, nursing homes and hospitals.

VTOS Programme:

This is a VTOS programme open to unemployed adults who are receiving a Social Protection payment. To qualify for this programme, you must be receiving a Social Protection payment for at least 6 months and be over 21 years of age.
