This Forensic Science programme has a strong foundation in science, but its emphasis is on the application of scientific principals in the area Forensic science. The programme offers a fascinating introduction to the world of forensic investigation and the criminal justice system, at the same time enabling graduates to apply for the same entry route to college using QQI Level 5 Laboratory Skills (5M3807) award.

Entry Requirements
In general you need to have a minimum of 5 passes at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. Applications are welcome from students with Leaving Certificate Vocational, Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 qualifications. Exceptions can be made on a case-by-case basis, where special circumstances apply. The Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for mature students and appropriate experience can be considered as meeting the entry requirement for most courses.
We also welcome applications from mature students on all our courses.
What Will I Study?
A full QQI Level 5 Award is attained on successful completion of eight modules. This must include all mandatory module listed for the programme. You will be assessed throughout the programme by a combination of continuous assessment, assignments and by exams in certain modules. On successful completion of each module, you will be awarded a Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Career Opportunities and Progression
Graduates may apply for degree courses such as Digital Forensics and Computer Forensics at TU Dublin Blanchardstown or South East Technological University Waterford. Students can progress onto the Level 8 QQI award in Applied Social Studies at TU Dublin Blanchardstown.
Graduates may also progress onto many other degrees at Level 7 and 8 in Universities and ITs or private colleges around the country, along with progression options to the UK. Future areas of employment can include Forensic Medical Examiner, Forensic Engineer, Crime Scene Investigator and Crime Laboratory Analyst. Graduates of a Level 7 degree may progress to employment with Forensic Ireland.
