This course gives students the academic, physical, technical, tactical & psychological knowledge necessary for the demands as a student athlete with particular emphasis on soccer coaching. In addition it offers a broad introduction to Sport, Exercise and Recreation studies, providing students with the necessary skills to take up employment at entry level in the leisure industry. Students will improve their knowledge, competence and understanding of physical fitness and sport both practically and theoretically.

Entry Requirements

In general, you need to have a minimum of 5 passes at ordinary level in the Leaving Certificate or its equivalent. Applications are welcome from students with Leaving Certificate Vocational, Leaving Certificate Applied or QQI Level 4 qualifications. The Leaving Certificate is not a requirement for mature students and appropriate experience can be considered as meeting the entry requirement for most courses. You must provide evidence of fitness (from your GP) to participate on this course. There will be a personal interview and football trial.

We also welcome applications from mature students on all our courses.

Career Opportunities and Progression

There are approximately forty Higher Education Institutions including Universities, Technological Universities and private colleges offering places on a range of courses to QQI full award certificate holders. Intending applicants are advised at all times to confirm linked awards, any additional module requirements, applications processes and scoring systems with the Admission Offices of the participating Higher Education Institutions or visit visit cao.ie.

Full awards can also be used for graduates' progression to Further Education level 6 courses or Level 7 and Level 8 programmes in Higher Education, such as, TU Dublin, DCU, Maynooth, SETU - visit cao.ie for further information. Full awards can also be used for entry to UK, European and International universities, on a case-by-case basis. Graduates often progress within the College to one of our QQI Level 6 programmes. Many past students have gained lucrative soccer scholarships to the USA. Others are working full-time in football or the sports industry.

In addition to progression options within the College to one of our QQI/FETAC Level 6 Sport and Leisure Management programmes, graduates may choose to apply to a range of courses in Technological Universities, including TUD.
